MESIC COMMENTS ON DISCLOSURE OF FAKE DISABLED WAR VETERANS' LIST

OKUCANI, June 15 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic on Thursday commented the announcement of a list of the so-called fake disabled war veterans while he toured the town of Okucani. Mesic said the Government's commission for revising military disability had completed its work and given findings and now "we must be aware that there have been all kinds of swindling and deception." "Whether some finding is correct, will be established in relevant proceedings," Mesic said adding that "our wounded soldiers were taken to hospitals and treated well," and therefore it is easy to establish a case history for everyone. They cannot equalise themselves with the wounded from World War Two when who had been healed in the woods and some forest infirmaries. In the Homeland War all were treated in hospitals. They should ask their case history and they do not need witnesses, Mesic said. Asked whether the generals whose names were cited on the list could exert more influence on dissatisfied Croatian war veterans, the President responded "they cannot." The disclosure of fake disabled veterans suits those who really sustained injuries in the war.
