NENAD IVANKOVIC RESIGNS TO DUTY OF 'VJESNIK' EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

ZAGREB, Jan 27 (Hina) - Nenad Ivankovic on Wednesday evening resigned to the duty of editor-in-chief of Croatian daily "Vjesnik". Because of changes at the elections I believe it is my moral and professional obligation to do it", Ivankovic told the Croatian Television. The main reason for his resignation is the ownership structure of that low-circulation daily, namely "the fact that the Croatian National Sabor and the Government are superior to editors-in-chief". Commenting on a statement of future deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic that the new Government does not need its own daily, for all media must be free, Ivankovic said it could be interpreted in several ways. This could mean that the new Government has so many papers which are close to the Government that it does not need "Vjesnik". What will happen to "Vjesnik", I really don't know, nor do I have any influence on that at this moment, and

What will happen to "Vjesnik", I really don't know, nor do I have any influence on that at this moment, and even if I had, I would not want to do it, said Ivankovic. He stressed that the acting editor was already chosen, however, he did not name names. Vjesnik is owned by the pension Fund in majority, has a low- circulation, and its debts are covered by the state. (hina)it
