ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - About 200 workers of beverage company "Badel
1862" on Wednesday appealed to the coalition which won recent
parliamentary elections to urge the company's management board to
accept their demands.
Representatives of the winning Social Democratic Party/Croatian
Social Liberal Party (SDP/HSLS) coalition responded political
parties were not the place to solve certain companies' problems,
but promised that upon taking over authority, they would inspect
every possible instance of law-breaking, including in "Badel
1862".
A coordination established to protect the beverage company today
staged a protest in downtown Zagreb, demanding the resignation of
the company's management and supervisory boards, the revocation of
53 dismissal decisions, the settlement of the ownership structure,
and the prevention of the transfer of half of Badel's production
from Zagreb to Citluk in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina.
After gathering on Zagreb's central square, the protesters headed
for the government building, demanding talks with Premier Zlatko
Matesa and Finance Minister Borislav Skegro. Since neither was
there, the protesters headed for the SDP headquarters.
While a company delegation held talks with the coalition's
representatives, the protesters chanted "A New Government Is Our
Hope" and "Thieves to Prison".
The protest proceeded with no incident. GONG NGO activists
distributed T-shirts with GONG logos.
