ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - President of the Croatian National
Parliament House of representatives and acting president of the
Republic, Vlatko Pavletic, on Tuesday held talks with assistant
Croatian Defence Minister, General Ljubo Cesic-Rojs.
The talks focused on Rojs's recent statements regarding the
presidential elections and presidential candidate Stipe Mesic, the
parliament's Public Relations Office said Tuesday.
Pavletic spoke with General Rojs and warned him "he had no right to
cross over to the political sphere while he was on duty in the
Croatian Army".
Pavletic reminded Rojs that if he wished, he had the possibility to
tender his resignation (to the position of assistant minister) and
take an oath as MP at the Croatian National Parliament, considering
the fact that he had been elected into the House of representatives
at the recent parliamentary elections.
The statement said Rojs had told Pavletic he would give a statement
for the media on Tuesday.
Pavletic expects the statement to be regarding Rojs's resignation
to his duties at the Defence Ministry and assuming the MP duty at the
parliament.
If General Rojs fails to do so, Pavletic will "be forced to take
action which he has been authorised to do by the Constitution, as he
wishes to ensure a completely legal transfer of authority,
according to the results of elections, without any pressures from
the side," the statement said.
Who will be the president of the Republic will be decided by the
electorate, notwithstanding differing interests from any one
side.
Such interests cannot be expressed by members of the Croatian Army
as they have no authority to do so, Pavletic said.
