"VOICE '99" DEMANDS RESIGNATION OF ELECTORAL COMMISSION PRESIDENT

ZAGREB, Dec 28 (Hina) - A non-government organisation, "Voice '99", on Tuesday forwarded an open letter to the president of the National Electoral Commission Marijan Ramuscak, in which it demanded that Ramuscak resigns to the duty of the president of the Commission, for the "Voice '99" believed that Ramuscak's activities were based on party campaigning and not on his legal profession. "Voice '99" stressed that the Croatian Constitutional Court was forced to establish that the Electoral Commission took an illegal standpoint on the voting of persons with permanent residence in Croatia staying abroad during the elections and cancel a Commission's decision in line with which "Voice '99" videos were subject to censorship. "Voice '99" also pointed to Ramuscak's statement that pictures of first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and crucifixes may be exhibited at polling stations. According to "Voice '99",

"Voice '99" also pointed to Ramuscak's statement that pictures of first Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and crucifixes may be exhibited at polling stations. According to "Voice '99", pictures of President Tudjman are a part of a visual image of the pre- electoral campaign of one of the parties. They also stressed that the Constitution clearly separated the state from religious communities. "The fact that your brother is an election candidate of the party which chose you to monitor the elections was not enough of a reason for you to examine a possibility of your impartial and correct work as the Commission president, but somebody else had to do so", read the letter signed by head of the "Voice '99" campaign's central office Tin Gazivoda.
