ZADAR, June 26 (Hina) - The county court in Zadar on Tuesday confirmed the acquittal of a former head of the local branch of SZUP (Service for the Protection of the Constitutional Order), Joso Nekic, and a former officer of the
Croatian army, Zeljko Stipic, who were accused of harbouring Bosnian Croats suspected of committing war atrocities against Muslims in the central Bosnian village of Ahmici in 1993. The charges against Nekic and Stipic were pressed in late 2000, when they were arrested and taken in custody. Later on, a municipal court in the Croatian coastal town of Zadar dropped the charges. The county state prosecutor's office in Zadar lodged an appeal with the county court against the municipal court ruling. The higher court, however, rejected the appeal, and this is the final verdict.(hina) sb ms
