At today's government session, Crkvenac thanked the customs
officers who had contributed to the decision against the strike
that was to start today and last for the next week.
He criticised several senior officials in the customs union and the
union federations for trying to damage Croatia with a strike during
the Christmas season. News about the strike have already been heard
abroad, he said.
Someone has to answer, Crkvenac said, adding that unions' measures
must be within legal frameworks.
The minister recalled that for more than a week certain union
officials had been announcing a strike for the most inconvenient
time, when many Croatians from abroad come to visit their relatives
in Croatia over Christmas.
With persistent talks and arguments, the government has managed to
prove that a strike would have been unlawful, said Crkvenac.
