During the war in early 1990s more than 220,000 Croats were expelled
from the area which is now the Bosnian Serb entity, and since the
conclusion of the 1995 Dayton Peace accords, only a few thousands
have come back.
After her meeting with Mladen Ivanic in Banja Luka, Doris Pack told
reporters she hoped that the situation would be positively changed
in the future.
Ivanic said in the past two years since he had held the premier's
office, 50 percent of property had been restituted to pre-war
owners.
"The return of Croats to the Republic of Srpska is not only the
result of the local authorities' conduct but it is also the result
of the political support of key parties representing the Croat
people and I think conditions are being created for those who would
like to return," the Serb entity's premier said.
He and the EU Parliament's official also talked about the
implementation of the results of the October 5 general elections in
Bosnia. Pack said the entity needed a stable government regardless
of its composition.
American diplomats oppose mostly the possibility that the Serb
Democratic Party (SDS) and other national parties could again come
into the power.
