ZAGREB, Dec 3 (Hina) - The Croatian Military Employees' Union has
forwarded a letter to the government, the President's Office,
parliament and the Defence Ministry suggesting the legalisation of
the organisation of military personnel into unions. #L#
The union suggested annulling the provision from the Law on Service
in the Armed Forces banning military personnel from organising into
unions.
Boris Kunst, leader of the Association of Workers' Trade Unions of
Croatia, which includes the Military Employees' Union, believes
that the provision is in contravention of the Constitution, which
guarantees the equality of all before the law.
"The time of war, when the provision was justified, is over and
there is not a single valid reason in peace-time conditions to ban
the union organisation of active military personnel," Kunst said at
a news conference.
