ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament should, without any
prior discussion, adopt a resolution requesting the transfer of
Zvonko Busic from a United States penitentiary to Croatia, the
parliamentary Presidency concluded at Tuesday's session. #L#
This is primarily a humane issue and any discussion in parliament
could only hurt the good intention of realising this project,
parliamentary president Zlatko Tomcic told reporters.
After all party benches discuss a draft resolution of the
Immigration Committee, the Presidency will immediately suggest the
final text of the resolution which the parliament would adopt
without prior discussion, Tomcic said.
The resolution, as moved by the Immigration Committee, envisages
the parliament requesting the United States to act in accordance
with a EU convention on the transfer of convicts and grant Busic's
transfer to Croatia to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Zvonko Busic has been serving a 40-year prison sentence since 1976
for hijacking an airplane which inadvertently led to the death of an
American police officer.
Tomcic told reporters that the Presidency session, which was also
attended by representatives of party benches, had not resulted in
an agreement on the arrangement of seats in the Big Hall.
The Presidency will assume the rule-book obligation and arrange the
seats, taking into consideration the logical principles of
grouping parties and the division to the ruling and opposition
parties, Tomcic said.
