"In my opinion, this is the most serious incident within the
(ruling) coalition, particularly between the SDP (Social
Democratic) and the HSS," Tomcic said commenting on accusations
levelled against his party, most frequently in relation to the
privatisation process.
"The HSS does not accept to build partnership relations along with
claims that partners get money and offices, while the SDP bears the
brunt of criticism," Tomcic told Hina, commenting on statements of
some SDP members at their meeting yesterday in Tuheljske Toplice (a
northern Croatian spa).
The HSS president said he did not know whether all of this was a
consequence of the SDP's inability, selfishness, fear of HSS'
competence, but his party was willing to analyse very seriously the
entire situation and bear consequences.
"I am really surprised at the nervousness which is beginning to rule
in the SDP. I am surprised at their readiness to play foul games,"
Tomcic said.
He added that misunderstanding with the SDP had not commenced with
the Tuheljske Toplice statements but earlier with the
interpretations of a meeting of coalition chiefs on the
privatisation of the oil industry (INA).
Tomcic also refuted some allegations of a SDP senior official, who
was quoted by the media as saying that at their recent meeting the
HSS requested 1.5 billion kuna for the agricultural and processing
plants.
Tomcic rebutted it as a mere lie.
Asked whether any other figure had been mentioned at that HSS-SDP
meeting, he said that only a passing reference to some 200 million
kuna had been made, but this was exploited by some SDP members to
make up a story of 1.5 billion kuna.
Asked about possibilities that persons proposed by the HSS be the
holders of the offices of the head of the Croatian Privatisation
Fund, Tomcic said such story did not exist for him.
His party is willing to discuss with the SDP about the concept and
strategy in the further privatisation, and for the HSS it is
important whether the two coalition partners could harmonise their
views on this issue, he added.
