ZAGREB, Oct 10 (Hina) - A bill on political parties met with
disapproval among all party benches in the Croatian parliament on
Thursday, because it is considered overregulating. The Opposition
believes the bill reflects the authorities' attempt to fully place
parties under control and abolish their autonomy. #L#
Deputies of the Social Democratic Party, Democratic Centre, and
Libra party benches suggested that the bill be treated as a paper,
which the sponsor, the Committee on the Constitution, Rule Book and
the Political System, accepted.
Due to a set of deficiencies, the Social Liberals described the bill
as "enlightened absolutism" and the HNS/PGS/SBHS bench (Croatian
People's Party, Primorje-Gorski Kotar Alliance, Croatian Party of
Slavonija-Baranja) called it "normative optimism".
The basis for the adoption of the bill, which would regulate the
work and organisation of political parties, is expert material
provided by the Croatian Legal Centre and other associations which
monitor the work of parties and Croatia's political life in
general.
