Given that the government is preparing Penal Code amendments
referring to the same issue as well, the bill's sponsor, Zlatko
Canjuga of the Croatian Independent Democrats, agreed that both
bills should be forwarded into second reading.
The benches of the Social Democrats, Libra, and national minorities
endorsed the Canjuga bill. Anto Beljo of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) urged punishment for "Ustasha and communist symbols" as
well.
There was no debate about a bill on employment rights moved by HDZ's
Jadranka Kosor, who proposed that the Employment Bureau should
delete from its files unemployed persons who refuse a job within 80
km from their place of residence. Since this would also refer to
women with children over the age of three, Kosor proposed that the
children's age limit be raised to six.
The benches debated and endorsed in first reading a bill on the
protection of persons and property, under which all companies could
make this their line of business, while criteria for the liability
of physical and legal persons for omissions would be stricter.
Parliament wrapped up today's sitting by debating an annual report
on the implementation of cadastral surveys in 2000.
The session resumes on Friday.
