ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Power Industry (HEP) reported
on Friday that it sent a bill, amounting to 6.8 million US dollars
for August this year to Slovenia's power industry ELES and the
nuclear power plant in Krsko. #L#
The bill refers to the costs of the HEP's capital in the Krsko
nuclear plant and costs of engaging more expensive power plants in
order to ensure the replacement for the Krsko plant.
The total amount which the Croatian state-run company asks, for the
period between 1 August 1998 since when Slovenia ceased
transmitting the electricity from Krsko to date, has come to 265
million dollars.
HEP has filed a suit against ELES and the Krsko plant before the
Zagreb commercial court, asking for damages to be paid by Slovenia
for the losses caused by the cessation of the provision of the power
supplies from Krsko.
The cessation of transmission of the electricity ensued after the
Slovene government adopted a decree on the nationalisation of the
Krsko plant, which was built together by Slovenia and Croatia in
early 1980s.
Until 1982, HEP invested 600 million dollars in the plant, situated
in the Slovene town, and this amount at the present is worth USD1.2
billion, HEP said.
The Croatian company is considering a possibility on instigating an
arbitration process, given that the Slovene parliament failed to
ratify the bilateral agreement on the said plant and given that
Ljubljana took some measures contrary to the provisions of the
bilateral deal.
