One Slovene fishing boat crossed one nautical mile into Croatian
waters this morning around 7am, a police spokesperson said. A
Slovene police boat arrived at the same spot one hour later, while
another two fishing boats joined them at 09.45am.
Croatian maritime police are on location, negotiating with Slovene
colleagues and fishermen about leaving Croatia's territorial
waters.
Piran Bay is an open border issue between Croatia and Slovenia on
which no agreement has yet been reached. Until a deal is signed, the
UN convention on maritime law, which stipulates that the
demarcation line between the two countries is exactly in the middle
of the bay, applies.
