ZAGREB/LJUBLJANA, Aug 9 (Hina) - The situation in the Bay of Piran
in the wake of the latest incidents hit the headlines of Slovenia's
press. #L#
Commenting on the events, a Croatian politician, Zdravko Tomac, was
quoted by Saturday's issue of the "Delo" daily as saying that
Slovenia's conduct in the latest events in the bay indicate that
Ljubljana would like to impose the enforcement of the segment of the
local border traffic and cooperation agreement's segment on the
rights of Slovenian fishermen to fish in Croatia's waters.
Tomac, the Croatian parliament's vice president and foreign
affairs committee's head, said this right could not still be
exercised as the combined inter-state commission had not yet
harmonised views on some other issues.
For Tomac, statements of Slovenian officials that Croatian patrol
boats entered "Slovenian waters" during the recent events in the
bay are "untrue and dangerous".
According to the Delo daily, "the latest spiral of incidents" in the
Bay of Piran reflects the necessity of a meeting between Slovenian
Premier Janez Drnovsek and his Croatian counterpart Ivica Racan.
