A deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Hua Jiang, said
the resolution would be put to the vote on Monday.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan proposed early this month that the
UNMOP mandate be conditionally extended for three months. He said
that if Croatia and Yugoslavia agreed on a transitional solution
before October 15, he would immediately inform the Council of it.
Annan is satisfied with a joint letter by the foreign ministers of
Croatia and Yugoslavia, Tonino Picula and Goran Svilanovic, which
he says lead him to the conclusion that the two sides were
negotiating in good faith and working towards a full border regime,
as well as mechanisms of mutual supervision.
This could contribute to the successful end of the UNMOP mandate,
Annan said.
