BELGRADE, June 15 (Hina) - The Yugoslav state security service members searched the house of Jovica Stanisic, a former head of the state security service, in the Belgrade residential area of Senjak on Friday night. The search was
carried out in the presence of investigators of the international war crimes tribunal (ICTY). According to a report of a local radio "B92", the warrant for search was issued at the request of the Hague-based Tribunal. Stanisic has intensively been negotiating with the Tribunal's investigators for three months, and he has allegedly told them that he possesses some documents which may incriminate other persons and free him of any responsibility, the radio said. Stanisic allegedly refused to produce the documents to the investigators without permission of the federal Yugoslav government. investigators for three months, and he has allegedly told them that
he possesses some documents which may incriminate other persons and
free him of any responsibility, the radio said.
Stanisic allegedly refused to produce the documents to the
investigators without permission of the federal Yugoslav
government.
In the meantime the ICTY asked the Yugoslav commission for
cooperation with the Tribunal and the relevant court in Belgrade to
allow its investigators to have an insight in the said documents.
After that the warrant was issued for the search of Stanisic's
house.
Eyewitnesses told the radio that a great number of policemen and
plainclothes policemen had stayed in front of Stanisic's house from
10 to 11 pm Friday, but that Stanisic had not be taken by the
police.
