BREGANA, June 20 (Hina) - The Croatian customs officers' union will
continue its two-day strike until it receives the written

negotiations on the other requests of the employees.#L#
On Thursday the government adopted a decree on the wage supplements
for difficult working conditions in some categories in the state
sector. Under the decree, the customs officers will receive the
bonus ranging between 10 and 20 percent.
In this context, the government concluded that this move eliminated
all the reasons for the customs officers' white strike.
The union's leader, Zeljko Popovic, however, reminded that the
unionists did not ask only for the increase in the salaries but also
for the continuation of the negotiations on a new collective
agreement, the accelerate retirement scheme and the revision of
salaries' coefficients.
Popovic told reporters at the border crossing of Bregana that 80
percent of customs officers took part in the strike which began on
08 am Thursday and should last until 10 pm Friday.
The action is being conducted at all border crossings except in
Medjimurje (northern Croatia) where customs officers are not
organised in the union.
The strikers are thoroughly checking vehicles and passengers at the
frontier, and this causes some traffic hold-ups.
Traffic gridlock has so far been reported from border crossings of
Macelj, Rupa, Pasjak and Plovanija.
