ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina)- President of the Croatian Parliament Zlatko
Tomcic reminded at the beginning of a parliamentary session on
Wednesday about Croatia's admission to the United Nations as a full
member ten years ago.
Tomcic also announced that Austrian President Thomas Klestil would
attend as a guest tomorrow to make a speech for members of the
Parliament.
Members continued with the 22nd session by adopting a bill on
traffic security in the first reading.
The Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) whip Vladimir Seks demanded
that parliament put as a priority a debate on criteria for taking
care of police officers who were laid off. Within the same context,
President Tomcic announced that the Government would be presented
on Thursday with a report by a council in charge of determining the
facts and circumstances involved in the lay-off of police
officers.
Representatives of Croatian artists waited for parliament members
in front of the building handing over pamphlets to remind them about
the new laws on insurance contributions and income tax, which they
say can endanger culture.
The new taxes could jeopardise artists activities, the artists
warned.
The pamphlets note that Croatia has 13,083 artists, of whom 1,239
are professionals and self-employed artists whose artistic
activity is their only and main occupation.
