NOVI VINODOLSKI, May 18 (Hina) - The Association of Workers' Trade
Unions of Croatia (URSH) will propose that unions no longer
participate in a task force in charge of amending the Labour Act, as
was agreed by the Economic-Social Council (GSV), due to the course
and model of negotiating, URSH president Boris Kunst said on
Saturday. #L#
The proposal will be put forward next Wednesday at a meeting of the
leaders of all five union federations, Kunst told reporters in Novi
Vinodolski.
The conduct of government and employers representatives in the GSV
task force is irresponsible, said Kunst. At a meeting with Prime
Minister Ivica Racan on Wednesday, the URSH will demand compliance
with the agreed work model or the termination of negotiations, he
added.
The struggle regarding amendments to the Labour Act is not over even
though the government has seemingly yielded, withdrawn its
restrictive theses, and extended the June deadline for forwarding
the amendments into parliamentary procedure, said Kunst. He added,
however, that the unions did not trust the government, aware the
government hoped the unions' unity would collapse.
As for the Labour Act, Kunst again accused the government of being
guided by demands of the World Bank, the International Monetary
Fund, and advisers proposing improvised solutions.
The unions will not give up on their stands regarding severance
wages, notice periods, and other demands, he said.
