"It is very unusual that there is someone claiming to be familiar
with confidential data and for this to launch an avalanche of
questions which are political for the most part," Gredelj said.
Speaking on national television, he commented on data published in
some media to the effect that the 2001 census showed that Serbs
accounted for only four percent of Croatia's population, which is
two thirds less than ten years ago, and on the reactions the data
provoked.
"That is a very ill-intentioned interpretation which doubts the
honesty of people who conscientiously and in hard circumstances
collected data," said Gredelj.
The data of the 2001 census will be made public on June 17, he said,
adding that processing would be carried out by world standards.
