Following the trial relating to Kosovo, the prosecution should
commence presenting evidence against Milosevic for crimes
committed in Croatia. The summer break for the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia will commence on August
5. The trial chamber earlier determined that the entire
presentation of prosecutorial evidence for Kosovo, Croatia and
Bosnia and Herzegovina should end by summer of next year. After
that, Milosevic should commence with his defence.
Milosevic is charged with war crimes in Kosovo and Croatia and
genocide in Bosnia.
A former forensics expert who led a team in Kosovo testified at the
trial today. French pathologist Eric Baccard described the results
of autopsies conducted in 1999 on victims taken from mass graves in
Kosovo. Based on the autopsies, a report was compiled with results
from 11 locations, including one of the largest massacres, in Racko
in January 1999, when 45 Albanians were killed. Baccard confirmed
the autopsies indicated the victims all died violent deaths.
