BELGRADE, Dec 30 (Hina) - Serbia's Election Commission has to announce
the final, official results of Sunday's extraordinary parliamentary
election by 8 pm on January 1, while the new parliament has to be
constituted within 30 days of the ballot, i.e. by January 28.#L#
After the final, official results are published in the Serbian
Official Gazette, the parties which passed the electoral threshold
have 10 days to submit to parliament lists of deputies who will
represent them. Every party chooses its deputies from a list of 250,
depending on the number of seats it won.
If a party fails to do so within that deadline, it is given another
five days, and if this second deadline is not met either, the deputies
are chosen by the Election Commission from the party's slate.
The inaugural session of the new parliament is called by the outgoing
parliament speaker, in this case Natasa Micic.
The new speaker, who is proposed by a minimum of 30 MPs, is elected
with the votes of at least 126 of 250 deputies.
Given that Serbia has no president, the new parliament speaker becomes
the acting president. S/he nominates a premier-designate following
consultations with parliamentary parties. The premier-designate needs
a minimum 126 votes in parliament to form the new government.
There is no deadline envisaged by law to form the government. The
outgoing government is in charge of technical duties until the new one
is formed.
