According to long-range population projections, which DESA
published in New York last Tuesday in the report entitled "World
Population in 2300", Croatia's population could fall even by ten
times if the current birth-rate remains.
The global population will rise from the current 6.3 billion to nine
(9) billion in 2300. DESA bases this projection on the assumption
that the woman would give birth to two children at the average.
Assuming that the woman in Croatia would give birth to two children
on average, the number of Croatia's inhabitants will fall from
4,446,000 (according to data from 2000) to 3.89 million in 2300.
At the rate of 1.6 born children per woman, there will be only
445,000 residents in Croatia in 2300. The UN, however, forecasts
that the rate will slowly rise to 1.65 children per woman in 2005,
1.85 in 2050 until 2.06 children born per woman in 2300.
According to the same report, the average Croatian is 39-year-old,
and until 2300 this will rise to the average age of 49.
In 2300, the life expectancy for Croatian women is estimated to
reach 101 years of age, and will be by four year longer than men's
life expectancy.
