Addressing his guests, Mesic said that a society was evaluated by
how much it provided for its members. "The greater the support to
disabled people, the more advanced a society, and at this moment
Croatia provides for them as much as it can," Mesic said.
There are some 430,000 disabled people in Croatia, which is about 10
percent of the population. The interests of disabled people are
promoted by 226 national and local associations.
