ZAGREB, Dec 3 (Hina) - The chief association representing the
Slovak minority in Croatia said on Tuesday it was in favour of
forming a coalition with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the
party that won the recent parliamentary elections. #L#
The association distanced itself from a statement by their
representative in parliament, Zdenka Cuhnil, that ethnic Czechs
and Slovaks were not ready to give their votes to the HDZ-led
government and that she would vote for the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) if political developments so required.
"Zdenka Cuhnil has no mandate from the Slovaks in Croatia to make
such a statement," the head of the association, Zlatko Jevak, said
in a statement. "The majority of Slovaks in Croatia and the
Association of Slovaks clearly support a coalition with the HDZ,"
he added.
Jevak expressed hope that in the future Cuhnil would seek an opinion
from her voters "before making important statements such as this".
