Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the leader of the
largest opposition party recalled Tomcic's statement that the
parliament would be dissolved in October.
"How is that possible if the date of elections is not yet known?", he
asked.
Sanader added that although Racan launched the election campaign
about two weeks ago, "the public still does not know when the
elections are."
Sanader went on to say that he was travelling to the Republic of
Ireland on Thursday at the head of a high-level HDZ delegation. He
is due to meet Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahorn, the finance
minister and other senior officials.
Ireland takes over the rotating presidency of the European Union on
January 1 next year, and Sanader said he would lobby for Irish
support for the status of Croatia as a candidate for full membership
in the EU.
