ZAGREB, Sept 4 (Hina) - The Independent Croatian Trade Unions (NHS)
have said that the minimum living costs of a four-member family in
August saw a slight drop compared to July. #L#
The average cost of the consumer basket in August totalled 6,979
kuna, which is 0.30 percent less than in July, when the living costs
of a four-member family totalled 7,000 kuna.
The union says the drop in living costs was not caused by a decrease
in prices but by the list of monitored towns being expanded to
include Vukovar.
The consumer basket is still the most expensive on the island of
Krk, where the minimal monthly costs of food, hygiene, clothing,
housing, transport, and entertainment total 7,179 kuna.
The coverage of the consumer basket with the average salary is the
highest in Zagreb (59.07 percent), followed by Dubrovnik (58.18
percent), Rijeka (57.58 percent) and Vukovar (57.40 percent).
The consumer basket does not include the costs of education, health
care, holidays and sport activities, and care for new-born babies.
It is assumed that the family does not have a car.
