Croatia's water supply problems are far fewer than in more
developed countries, and only five percent of the population is
experiencing cuts, Marasovic said, adding that these were people
connected to small water supply systems.
Marasovic appealed to reporters not to foment panic and make the
current situation seem catastrophic when there was no reason for
it.
He hopes the government will consider at tomorrow's session a
report on the water supply situation and measures and programmes
the company submitted today.
Marasovic said about 76 percent of the population was covered with
water supply while the rest, mainly eastern Croatia, was using
water from wells, springs, and cisterns.
Supply in tourist areas is almost at the European level, ranging
between 85 and 98 percent, Marasovic said, adding that supply was
much better than in previous years because of big investments in the
system.
The head of company's Water Use and Management Department, Ivan
Kolovrat, said this year's droughts were the biggest ever recorded
and that the water level of rivers, lakes and underground waters was
at an all-time low.
