report on the visit of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, setting
priorities for future relations between the two countries. #L#
These include completion of the legal framework for cooperation,
continuation of talks at political and business levels, and
establishment of a joint working group to analyse and monitor the
progress of cooperation.
The document, signed on behalf of Croatia by Deputy Foreign
Minister Ivan Simonovic, was made public at Tripoli airport shortly
before the departure of the Croatian delegation for Zagreb.
The document says that Mesic and Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi
met several times to discuss the development of bilateral
cooperation in many areas, as well as other issues of common
interest.
The two sides agree that it is necessary to finalise the legal
framework for cooperation and sign agreements on double taxation
avoidance and on technical, scientific and cultural cooperation as
soon as possible.
The report says that continued efforts should be made to establish
connections between business people and organise trade fairs to
present products from the two countries.
The two countries will continue or initiate cooperation in the
areas of the oil and petrochemical industry, water exploitation,
development of infrastructure (particularly highways, railways
and waterworks in Libya), shipbuilding, the pharmaceutical
industry, tourism, production of cement and glass in Libya,
agriculture and the food industry.
The two sides stressed the need for joint ventures on the African
continent. Foundation of an African centre for diabetes in Libya
and a cement factory in Sudan were cited as projects of special
interest.
Libya supported the candidacy of the Croatian Adriatic city of
Rijeka to host the Mediterranean Games in 2009.
