special 40-page pull-out enclosed with Saturday's issue. #L#
Twenty thousand issues of Vjesnik, released for 63 years, is not a
mere statistical data, but it is the proof of the daily's stamina in
many turbulent times, ups and downs the paper has experienced
during it history," the editor-in-chief Kresimir Fijacko wrote in
today's editorial.
Fijacko is especially proud of the fact that the daily mirrors the
current moment of Croatia, cultural, political and economic
trends, without flirting with sensationalism.
The reputation of Vjesnik as a serious newspaper is corroborated by
statements which both representatives of the ruling coalition and
leading opposition politicians, as well as other public figures,
including scientists, cultural workers, and some other renowned
citizens, gave in the coloured pull-out on this occasion.
Croatian top officials -- President Stjepan Mesic, Premier Ivica
Racan, Sabor Speaker Zlatko Tomcic -- gave their comments on the
daily in this pull-out, too.
