ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - After last week's vote in parliament,
Croatia is richer for seven health-related laws which are fully
adjusted to European Union standards, Health Minister Andro
Vlahusic said on Tuesday. #L#
For the first time, Croatia has laws regulating the professions of
physicians, dentists, medical biochemists, pharmacists, and
nurses. Their associations will play an important role in expert
and ethical supervision, Vlahusic told a news conference.
The new law on health care stipulates that health services in the
country will be provided by public and private health
institutions.
This law allows health workers to voluntarily establish group
practices, and includes a provision on the categorisation of
hospitals according to the type of services provided.
The law on medicines and medical products envisages the
establishment of an agency which will regulate the drug market in
Croatia.
Vlahusic said this agency and all institutions to be set under the
new laws would be established before the end of the year during the
term of the incumbent government.
The health legislation package will be rounded up with the adoption
of a law on patients' rights, which parliament should debate in the
autumn, the minister said.
