ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Monday adopted the Food Act which will enable the arrival of GMO products to the Croatian market. Those products will have to undergo a strict control and will be clearly
marked.

the Food Act which will enable the arrival of GMO products to the
Croatian market. Those products will have to undergo a strict

Animal food containing GMO will also have to be marked.
A special laboratory will be set up within the Croatian Public
Health Institute with the task to detect genetically modified
organisms. There are only 30 laboratories of this kind in the
world.
The law also foresees the organisation of the Croatian Food Agency
which should ensure a unified, adjusted system of the official food
control and raise the level of the consumer protection.
Parliament also amended the law on the protection of plants and the
law on sate support in agriculture, fishing industry and forestry.
Croatia joined a group of countries that ban people cloning --
parliament adopted a law which ratifies international conventions
prohibiting people cloning.
