The spokeswoman for the HSS, Marijana Petir, told reporters
Thursday that the majority of farmers did not support the protest
because they assessed that progress had been made in agriculture.
The coordinating body of farmers' associations told a news
conference in Satnica Djakovacka that it was satisfied with
yesterday's protests in four Croatian counties and that the turnout
was higher than the police reported.
New protests with a lot more protesters have been announced if the
government fails to raise the purchase price of wheat to 1.3 kuna
per kilogram.
The president of the Federation of Aarmers' Associations from
Slavonia and Baranja, Antun Laslo, said he suspected the HSS was
trying to prevent announced protests in Vukovar-Srijem County.
