"If non-combatant service becomes a rule, there is a danger of a
start of the process of abolishing military service," Markov said
after a committee session which was also attended by students of the
"Blago Zadro" military school.
This is the conclusion of the committee, which also discussed the
Armed Forces Law and reorganisation of the army.
According to recent polls, more than 40 percent of conscripts
support non-combatant service, Markov, an MP of the Croatian
Peasant Party (HSS), said.
He believes that this issue, along with a recent initiative by the
Libra party to abolish conscription, would soon be placed on the
parliament's agenda.
