ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bozidar Pankretic met on Tuesday to discuss the repairing of the damage caused by drought and measures the government planned to take, the
president's office said in a statement.

Mesic and Pankretic pointed to the need to find an assistance model,
to be drawn up jointly by the government, local authorities and
Croatian business banks, because, they said, alleviating the
damage caused by droughts was of national interest, the statement
said.
In that context, Mesic supported the measures taken by the
government and the agriculture ministry, adopted at the May 15 a
session, and supported new measures the government plans to take.
Thirteen Croatian counties have been proclaimed a natural disaster
area, and according to some estimates, the standard of living of
almost one million Croatian citizens may be on the edge of
subsistence, the statement said.
