agriculture minister, Bozidar Pankretic. #L#
The first session of the commission, headed by Minister Pankretic,
is scheduled for 16 May.
On Tuesday, the minister will hold a news conference to present some
measures which should be taken to ease the consequences of this
natural disaster which affected the country's farmers.
On Wednesday, Premier Ivica Racan, together with the national
crisis committee, will tour eastern Croatia, to get an insight of
the problems caused in agriculture by this year's drought.
So far, eight counties have been designated as natural disaster
areas.
Premier Racan said in an interview with the Croatian Radio on Monday
that the government would propose adequate measures to alleviate
damage caused by the disastrous drought.
He said that he would advocate long-term measures rather than
allocating only financial funds to farmers in such cases.
He was quoted by the radio as saying that he was in favour of
measures which would stimulate farmers to implement the
amelioration reclamation of land and to pay crop insurance or
similar accident insurance at insurance companies.
He declined to speculate about figures indicating the damage, and
added that his Cabinet would adopt concrete measures on Thursday.
