ZAGREB CITY ASSEMBLY REPLACES HEAD OF OFFICE FOR URBAN PLANNING

ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - The head of Zagreb City's Office for Urban Planning and a member of the city government, Miljenko Mesic, was replaced on Saturday by a majority vote of the coalition partners in the city government - the Croatian People's Party (HNS) and the Social Democratic Party. The Assembly appointed Mislav Zagar a member of the city government. #L# Opposition councillors from the Croatian Bloc voted against Mesic's replacement, while the Croatian Democratic Union, Croatian Party of Rights and the Croatian True Revival abstained. The opposition slammed the city authorities for failing to protect a city official who defended himself and the law from an attack by investor Zdravko Mamic. Today's session was called to discuss, among other issues, a recent verbal and physical conflict between Mesic and Mamic at the mayor's office over a location permit for a business centre in downtown Zagreb.
