ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The head committee of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) on Sunday dissolved the party's committees in Primorje-
Gorski Kotar and Bjelovar-Bilogora counties and the Rijeka city
committee because they "did not work in the spirit of the Seventh
HDZ General Assembly." #L#
HDZ vice president Jadranka Kosor told reporters the committees
were dissolved because they did not carry out the decisions of the
party's head committee. She declined to say which decisions she was
referring to.
Kosor refuted allegations that HDZ president Ivo Sanader was
continuing to rid the party of those who at the party's Seventh
General Assembly voted for Ivic Pasalic to be elected party
president.
Both Kosor and HDZ chief secretary Branko Vukelic dismissed
speculation that the committees dissolved today had to do with
squaring accounts with HDZ representative Dario Vukic.
Kosor told journalists this was the last dissolving of the party's
local committees for the purpose of consolidating the party and
winning at an upcoming parliamentary election.
The HDZ head committee decided today the party's eighth assembly
would be held on June 21 or 28.
