The funds, donated with the mediation of the non-government
humanitarian association "Arbeiter Samariter Bund" (ASB), will be
used for eight de-mining projects in four counties.
A contract on the donation was signed on Thursday at the Croatian
Mine Action Centre (HCR) in Sisak by the head of the ASB office in
Croatia, Wolfgang Gressmann, and HCR director Otto Jungwirth.
The signing ceremony was also attended by the first secretary at the
German Embassy in Zagreb, Wolfgang Wendel, who said that since 1999
the German government had donated more than 1.4 million euros for
de-mining purposes in Croatia.
Since 1991 Germany has donated more than 50 million euros for
refugees, the reconstruction of war-struck areas, de-mining, and
other humanitarian projects in Croatia, the official said.
