ZAGREB, April 3 (Hina) - A total of 110.5 million square metres of mine-infested land will be cleared of mines in Croatia this year. De-mining costs will total 345.65 million kuna (EUR44.88 million).

mine-infested land will be cleared of mines in Croatia this year.

A total of 202.65 million kuna of de-mining funds will be secured
from the budget, while the rest will be secured by seeking a loan
from the World Bank and public and state-owned companies and
through donations.
Slightly more than 1,630 square kilometres of land is suspected of
being mine-infested, and mine-removal experts are yet to clear land
in 14 counties of some 700,000 mines.
Bjelovar-Bilogora County should be completely clear of mines this
year.
The average price of de-mining is 14 kuna (EUR1.8) per square
metre.
More than 90% of de-mining funds are still secured from the state
budget. Between 1998 and 2002 around 133 million euros of budgetary
funds were set aside for this purpose.
A total of 1,842 persons were involved in mine accidents, of whom
413 were killed, 1,052 sustained serious injuries and 309 were
lightly injured.
