ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) urged
the government on Friday to review the decision by the Croatian
Homeland Veterans' Ministry about the distribution of budgetary
funds for volunteers' associations, the party said in a press
release. #L#
"The HDZ harshly denounces statements by Veterans' Minister Ivica
Pancic refusing the possibility for HVIDR-a (Croatian Homeland War
disabled veterans association) to receive budgetary funds for its
work. Such an impertinent conduct of a Croatian government minister
who manipulates budgetary funds as if they were his own and not
funds of all tax payers, is impermissible," the press release says.
The party urges the government to review the ministry's decision.
The HDZ recalls that HVIDRa gathers Croatian veterans who suffered
grave injuries in defending Croatia and believes that the utter
discrimination against these people and their work is
impermissible.
Pancic yesterday signed a decision on government subsidies for the
work of veterans' associations, according to which HVIDR-a
received not even a kuna.
Pancic thus confirmed his April 2 statement uttered in Split that
"HVIDR-a will not even receive one kuna if it does not state its
views about respecting a law-based state and about an agreement
which the ministry and the co-ordinating body of veterans'
associations signed in March 2001, which the HVIDR-a didn't".
HVIDR-a president Damir Varazdinec told Hina at the time that he
would not sign the agreement because it was declarative, without a
concrete content and committed nobody.
He said HVIDR-a did not need money from the veterans' ministry if
that would mean making its work conditional.
