SARAJEVO, April 15 (Hina) - The Russian government has officially
informed NATO and the Command of the Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in
Bosnia-Herzegovina about its intention to withdraw its
peacekeepers from Bosnia, SFOR spokesman Dale MacEachern said in
Sarajevo on Tuesday. #L#
He said that Bosnia could expect that 300 Russian soldiers would be
withdrawn form SFOR soon, most probably in May, and that the
procedure would be conducted in close cooperation between NATO and
Russian authorities.
Russian soldiers are deployed in north-eastern Bosnia's Ugljevik
and they were active within a sector which was under U.S. command.
This will have no effect on security in Bosnia and SFOR will be able
to efficiently complete its mandate, MacEacheren said.
U.S. Ambassador with NATO Nicholas Burns said it was possible that
the Russians would not be withdrawn because his government was not
interested in such a proposal at this moment.
