Steiner said Thaqi's suggestion was a concrete idea which helped
the overall process of Kosovo's development.
Steiner and Thaqi agreed during Friday's talks that the transfer of
authorities from the UN Mission in Kosovo to Kosovo's institutions
should be carried out gradually.
Thaqi's suggestion was also hailed by other international
representatives in Kosovo.
The government, parliament and President Ibrahim Rugova did not
comment on Thaqi's idea. Some Albanian political parties, such as
the New Party of Kosovo, headed by Bujar Bukoshi, a former Kosovo
premier in exile, harshly denounced the suggestion, claiming it was
very harmful for Kosovo's future.
