U.N. administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) to interim Kosovo institutions.
KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, April 3 (Hina) - Several thousand Serbs staged
a rally in Kosovska Mitrovica on Thursday protesting against U.N.
Civil Administrator Michael Steiner's initiative to transfer some
powers from the U.N. administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) to interim
Kosovo institutions. #L#
"Steiner did not keep his promises regarding the decentralisation
of authority in Kosovo, and instead offers to transfer powers to the
Kosovo institutions," northern Kosovo Serb leader Milan Ivanovic
said at the rally. He said Serbs would hold a referendum and
elections in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica and vote for
the decentralisation of authority. Ivanovic reiterated that the
Serb community would persist in the return of the Serb armed forces
and police to Kosovo.
A member of Kosovo's parliament, Rada Trajkovic, accused Steiner
and Kosovo Premier Bajram Rexhepi of attempting to establish an
Albanian army in Kosovo.
