Addressing reporters from Belgrade, Rexhepi explained Kosovo's
aspirations to independence, saying that it was difficult to
restore confidence between Belgrade and Pristina and Serbs and
Albanians after the war.
It would be best to solve the problem of Kosovo without the
influence of the international community, he said, adding that for
the time being he did not see a possibility for Belgrade and
Pristina to solve Kosovo's status in direct dialogue, independent
of the international community.
"There would be no problems in relations between Serbs and
Albanians if Kosovo's status was solved," he said, adding that it
was only natural for Kosovo to have the closest economic
cooperation with Serbia.
"If we should live in some artificial state, who could guarantee
that a new conflict would not occur? We will promote what draws us
closer, but if that is not possible, the problem would be solved by
allowing everybody to have their own state," said Rexhepi.
