ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan on
Friday reiterated the government's stand that an indictment of the
U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague against retired Croatian
general Janko Bobetko had been handed to his legal counsel. #L#
"The Hague (tribunal) asked that we hand the indictment either to
the general or his attorneys. The indictment was delivered to his
attorneys and as far as the government is concerned, the story ends
here," Racan told reporters after a meeting of the ruling
coalition, in reply to questions about whether the indictment had
been handed to Bobetko's attorneys or not.
"Everything else is unnecessary details and attempts to render
Croatia hostage to the irresponsible conduct of some people around
Bobetko," he said.
The prime minister noted that the indictment had been issued, and
added that "the attorneys must have read it and received it in this
case".
"I can understand if they thought that they did not have to read it,"
he said.
The government issued a statement earlier in the day saying it had
handed the indictment against the general to his attorney Bosiljko
Misetic, who rebutted this, saying he had not been handed the
indictment.
