ZAGREB, March 21 (Hina) - Croatian Premier Ivica Racan has said that President Stjepan Mesic did not consult the government with regard to his address to the nation on the Iraqi war. #L# "Even though in his address the president refers to the joint political stances of the country's leadership with regard to the war in Iraq, it has again been confirmed that everybody has their own special style of addressing the public," Racan said in an interview for Saturday's issue of "Jutarnji list" daily. The government was not consulted about the contents of Mesic's address, Racan stressed. The prime minister also commented on a recent statement by US Ambassador to Croatia Lawrence Rossin that Croatia could face the consequences of its not joining the Coalition against Iraq. "I believe that America's reaction was too harsh but I understand their motives and stands." Racan expressed hope that the current cooling down of US-Croatia relations would not have any long-term effects on Washington's attitude towards Zagreb or Croatia's admission to NATO. In his address to the nation on national television on Thursday night, President Mesic said that the Coalition's strike on Iraq was illegitimate because it had not been approved by the U.N.
