ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - A total of 362,608 people were registered as unemployed with the Croatian Employment Bureau at the end of February, which was 1.2 percent less than the previous month and 12.5 percent less than in February
2002.

as unemployed with the Croatian Employment Bureau at the end of
February, which was 1.2 percent less than the previous month and
12.5 percent less than in February 2002. #L#
Of said figure 21.2 percent receive unemployment benefits, which is
down 13.1 percent on February 2002.
In February 22,058 were erased from Bureau lists although only half
found employment, mainly on a temporary basis. The rest were erased
for other reasons, including irregular reporting to the Bureau,
military service, and retirement.
Last month 11,028 registered with the Bureau found employment, 1.8
percent more than in January. Of them 82.4 percent found temporary
employment.
Broken down by branch, 23.5 percent found employment in retail and
wholesale, 21.7 percent in the processing industry, and 10.4
percent in construction.
In February 17,548 people reported to the Bureau looking for a job,
25.4 percent less than in February 2002.
Also this February, 9,700 vacancies were reported to the Bureau,
down 39.4 percent on February 2002, which was due to changes in
legislation under which the law no longer binds employers to report
vacancies.
Compared to February last year, registered unemployment was down
nation-wide. The biggest drop was recorded in the westernmost
county, Istria -- 35.7 pct, and the lowest in Virovitica-Podravina
County -- 2.9 pct.
